Mother/daughter relationships are at the centre of this story of North African-born cleaner, Fatima and her family living in France. Based on the autobiographical Arabic poems of Fatima Elayoub, Fatima is the story of 3 woman, each fighting to find their place inside a new culture. Living alone and working to support 2 French-speaking daughters, single parent Fatima carries multiple jobs to make ends meet. Speaking little French and having little time, language barriers become high stakes as she struggles to look after her daughters. Conflict and alienation inside modern French society is exposed through this sharp, insightful and warm slice of life.
